Chat RelayGoogle Chat for Jira: what to check before Connect end of support
Atlassian is ending support for apps built on its older Connect framework. After 31 January 2027, Connect apps get no new platform updates, and Atlassian expects more of them to break over time (Atlassian announcement). New Jira features only arrive for apps built on Forge.
How to check your current app
- Open the app's Atlassian Marketplace listing and look at the version history. Ask the vendor directly whether the app runs on Forge or has a migration plan.
- Look the app up on forge-apps.com, a free tracker of Marketplace apps' platform status.
- Check the last release date. An app with no release for years is unlikely to be migrated.
What to switch to
If your team only needs issue updates in Chat spaces, you can move to a Jira Automation web request (free, but one rule per event) or a Forge app. If you also create issues from Chat, keep the free Jira for Google Chat app for that and use a webhook app for notifications.
What to compare
- Runs on Forge.
- Per-space routing: different projects and events to different spaces.
- What data leaves Jira, and whether the vendor stores it.
- Price for your number of Jira users.
Chat Relay posts Jira Cloud updates (new issues, status changes, assignments, public comments) to Google Chat spaces through a space webhook, with up to 10 spaces and per-space projects and events. No automation rules or JSON to maintain. Try the free beta while the Atlassian Marketplace listing is in review. See the setup guide.
