Chat RelayChat Relay: Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
This policy explains what data the Chat Relay app for Jira Cloud (including its beta version) handles, why, and where it goes.
Who we are
Chat Relay is made by Markrip Labs SIA, registration number 40203725109, Latvia ("we"). Contact: apps@markriplabs.com.
What the app does
Chat Relay runs on Atlassian Forge, inside Atlassian's cloud. When something happens in your Jira Cloud site (an issue is created, its status changes, it is assigned, or a public comment is added), the app posts a short message to the Google Chat spaces that your Jira administrator configured.
We do not run our own servers for this app. We do not use analytics, tracking or cookies, and we do not sell or share data for advertising.
Data the app stores
The app stores its settings in Atlassian Forge storage for your Jira site:
- Google Chat webhook URLs entered by your Jira administrator. These URLs contain a secret key and token. They are stored as secrets and are never shown again in the app.
- The Jira project IDs and event types selected for each space.
- For each space, details of the last failed delivery: the time, the HTTP status code and a short explanation. No issue content is stored.
The app does not store issue content, comments, names or email addresses.
Data the app reads and sends
When a selected event happens, the app reads from your Jira site:
- the issue key, summary, type, status and project;
- the display names of the reporter, the assignee and the comment author (looked up by account ID through the Jira API);
- for comment events, the comment text.
It then sends one message to the configured Google Chat space(s), through Google's incoming webhook API (chat.googleapis.com). The message contains the issue key and a link to the issue, the summary, the type, the status change, the names listed above, and for comments, up to the first 200 characters of the comment.
The app does not send email addresses, issue descriptions or attachments. Comments restricted to a project role or group, and internal Jira Service Management notes, are not sent.
Once a message is in Google Chat, it is handled by Google under your organization's Google Workspace agreement. Who can see it depends on who is a member of that Chat space.
Where the data is processed
- Atlassian (Forge hosting and storage), under Atlassian's terms and privacy policy: https://www.atlassian.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Google (Google Chat), as chosen and configured by your organization: https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use any other service providers for this app.
How long data is kept
Settings stay in Forge storage while the app is installed. A Jira administrator can remove a Chat space in the app settings at any time; its webhook URL is deleted when the change is saved. When the app is uninstalled, Atlassian deletes the app's stored data according to Forge's data retention rules (at the time of writing, 28 days after uninstallation).
Platform logs for the app are kept by Atlassian. The app does not write issue content to logs.
Your choices and rights
A Jira administrator controls which projects, events and Chat spaces the app uses, and can turn any event off or uninstall the app.
If you have a question about your data, or want to exercise your rights under the GDPR or other data protection laws, email apps@markriplabs.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority; in Latvia this is the Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija).
Changes
If we change what data the app handles, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
